04-30-2017
Rory's Rockets Local 6000This year’s March of Dimes walk-a-thon
in Detroit
on April 29th, featured the
biggest number yet of Local 6000
participants. Over 50 Local 6000 members

and their families attended and participated.
It was a cold windy day, but
people
stayed warm by participating in the 3 ½ mile walk that
helped raise
funds for the March of Dimes.

The Local 6000 team participated under the team name Rory’s

Rockets. The March of Dimes is a long established non-profit
organization that funds research to fight birth defects and premature
birth. It was founded in the 1930’s originally to fight against polio.
The walk in Detroit is one of among 900 across the country each year.

As she has
UAW Local 6000 Membersevery year for many years,
DHHS retiree Gwen Burns
helped
organize the Local 6000 team.
In addition, Deborah Bowman (Hamtramck DHHS Chief
Steward) and Anthony McNeill (Benefits Rep) helped get people
there. Special thanks also to Maria Enriquez (Cha
irperson of the Local 6000
Community Services Committee) who came from Lansing, and to
Yvonne Cash from Region 1A for the “hand warmers”.
And of course Thank You to everyone who participated and donated.
